Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise method designed to strengthen your muscles, improve flexibility, and enhance posture through controlled movements. It focuses on building core strength while connecting your mind and body, which is why it’s often called a “mindful movement practice.” Whether you’re lying on a mat or using specialised equipment like a reformer, Pilates challenges you to move with precision and control. It’s great for people of all fitness levels, helping to tone, build endurance, and even relieve stress. Pilates isn’t just a workout—it’s a way to feel stronger, move better, and live more comfortably in your body!

What are the benefits of doing Pilates regularly?

Pilates is so much more than just exercise—it’s a way to strengthen your body, improve your posture, and feel amazing from the inside out. Whether you’re looking to ease back pain, build core strength, lose weight, or just move with more confidence, Pilates can help. Plus, it’s gentle yet challenging, so anyone can do it, no matter where you’re starting from!

Who invented Pilates?

Pilates was invented by Joseph Pilates, a German-born physical trainer. He developed the method in the early 20th century, originally calling it “Contrology.” Joseph Pilates believed that physical and mental health were deeply connected, and his exercises focused on improving strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. He first created the practice to help rehabilitate injured soldiers during World War I and later refined it to help dancers and athletes improve their performance and recover from injuries. Today, his method has evolved but still honours his original principles: precision, control, breath, relaxation, alignment, flowing movements and a strong mind-body connection.

How Often should I do Pilates?

I recommend doing Pilates at least 3 times a week if you can (if not more), even if you are only able to commit to a 15 minute workout. You will feel so much better for it! However, don’t be hard on yourself, do what you can to start with and see how you get on!

How do I do Pilates if I have injuries or a medical condition?

I always advise speaking to a medical professional, be it a doctor, physiotherapist or chiropractor and always ask them BEFORE you commit to a new exercise routine if it is safe to do so! However, Pilates is generally very safe and often IMPROVES many conditions such as chronic lower back, hip and knee pain! If you are pre or post natal or have osteoporosis, you need to try specialised Pilates classes as you will be restricted from doing quite a lot of the standard exercises!

Where can I access your FREE workouts?

All of my FREE workouts are on Youtube! Make sure you click here and subscribe! Also join our FREE community to access a weekly schedule of 15-30 minute workouts which you can do at your own pace. This is a great way to do my workouts if you are limited on funds!

What equipment do I need for your online Pilates classes?

All you really need to get started is a comfy mat and a little space to move! If you want to take things up a notch, some resistance bands or light weights can be fun additions as well as a Pilates ball and Magic circle, but they’re totally optional (I will always suggest other household objects that you may be able to use)! I also have some amazing product recommendations to help you get the most out of your practice! Click here to see them:
